APVV – IGIHOZO is an association of people living with HIV / AIDS that includes HIV-positive people (men and women) and orphans infected and / or affected by HIV / AIDS that was launched in February 2003.
The RRP+ Chairperson, Mrs Sylvie Muneza born in 1972, a widow with one child, tested HIV Positive in 1998 and that time she was sick of tuberculosis as HIV co-infection with less than 20 Kg and had a thought of committing suicide due to the stigma that existed in society as there was no ART or Vaccine and auto-stigma was on high level. After 2 years of struggle, in 2000 she started ART up and up to now she continues with good adherence to ART, she is healthy with more than 70kg. She is a business woman in normal life. She is a founder of a local NGO Igihozo that supports people infected or affected by VIH, especially orphans and widows. As RRP+ chairperson she is committed to keeping people living with HIV at the center of the response.
